Managing Customer Service via Social Media ? Scalable Social ...

Remember the days when gathering customer feedback involved filling out a comment card? ?In these social media-obsessed times, customer service is more likely to involve Tweets and updates than pen and paper!? This should come as no surprise to us in a world where people chose emailing and text messaging as a preferred means of communication.

Consider this: in 2010 filmmaker, Kevin Smith tweeted his complaint about a Southwest Airlines flight. The result? Eight responses from Southwest within a 48 hour period of time. The last being a public apology. Now I don?t know about you, ?but I am pretty sure I have never received that response from a a comment card!? So what?s the lesson for those of us managing a small business? Educating ourselves about the growing need of handling customer service via social media is time well spent.

Social Media or by phone - People don't like to wait for customer service

Social Media or by phone ? People don?t like to wait for customer service

In Customer Service, Every Moment Counts

We all know how frustrating it is to wait for customer service. Try calling a cable company and finding yourself on hold for twenty minutes. By the time we get through to customer service we are even more annoyed than when we picked up the phone. Social media is no different. In fact, with how quickly social media posts are made available to the public eye, this gives even more impetus to addressing comments and complaints promptly. Recent studies have shown that most fans expect a response within 24 hours, yet most businesses are not meeting that expectation.

Don?t Be Afraid to Be Human

While technology has made our lives easier, when online customer service lacks a human touch, you will find it difficult to truly satisfy your customers. Try this: As mentioned above, respond to the matter as quickly as possible via the main account (I.e.@AcmeCustomerService) or from your company?s Facebook Page or Google Plus account, but consider signing the response with your own name, ie., ?? we will do every thing we can to resolve this in a timely manner- Tina G,?.? Give them a way to respond to you directly by phone or email to take the discussion off-air.

Fight the Urge to Delete Negative Comments

Try to remember the customer has made an effort (even if it?s in the form of a complaint) to give your company feedback. Ignoring the comment will not resolve anything, in fact, a customer who feels ignored is liable to get angrier about ?the issue at hand. Make such comments a high priority, addressing them as soon as possible.? Of course, it is your prerogative to delete abusive or profane comments and to block users who continue to ignore your posting policies.

The World is Watching, so Reply in a Kind and Helpful Manner.?

Remember that social media puts your business in a fishbowl and magnifies your personality ? for good or bad. Avoid ?reacting? to negative comments and instead be ?proactive? about attaining a resolution by letting customers know you will do everything possible to rectify the situation. Not only will this calm the frustrated customer, but it may also go a long way in earning the respect of ?prospective customers.

Yes, times have changed. The days of a written complaint via a comment card may well be in our past. However, customer service is customer service, ?whether it?s received formally at a desk, or on a public forum. If we learn to utilize social media as a tool for achieving a high level of customer service both the consumer and entrepreneur is sure to achieve satisfying results.

95% Argo

All Critics (192) | Top Critics (43) | Fresh (183) | Rotten (9)

'Argo' is one of the best movies of the year.

Argo has that solid, kick-the-tires feel of those studio films from the 70s that were about something but also entertained. Only it's as laugh outright amusing as it is sobering.

The movieland satire is laid on thick, but it's also deadly accurate. Schlock has never seemed so patriotic, and Arkin and Goodman have rarely been so good.

Argo is a rollicking yarn, easily the most cohesive and technically accomplished of Affleck's three films so far, but a part of me wishes the director hadn't cast himself in the lead role.

If nothing else, it proves that every so often, the CIA can pull something off - and that yes, Canadians are just about the nicest people on the planet.

The film is a whopper of a tale, one designed for Oscar nominations, Best Picture and Best Director among them.

There's "creating an intense, claustrophobic situation in a foreign locale" and there's "inciting unquestioning fear of 'the other'," and Argo pulls off the former far more often than it accidentally achieves the latter.

An ingeniously conceived thriller that's almost as much about our collective love of cinema as it is a tricky international incident.

Suspenseful movie based on a true incident; Ben Affleck's stock rises as an actor and director.

It not only confirms Affleck as one of the few A-listers to have made a credible transition to behind the camera, but that he's one of the most exciting mainstream directors around, full stop.

Affleck's seamless melding of intense thrills in Tehran and biting humour in California makes for a wholly satisfying movie.

The use of dramatic licence in the finale is too obvious but aside, Argo is a solid dramatic thriller that is informative, entertaining and gripping.

The film has heart and brains as well as balls, the screenplay delivering a clear and strong story without sacrificing either political or personal context

As a real life human drama, it is extraordinary. As a thrilling movie experience, it is unmissable

A thoroughly enjoyable, well put together movie that flies by, works well and largely succeeds at what it is trying to accomplish. Also one of those movies where it feels like "I should LOVE it - but don't."

It's okay to take a few liberties in the name of a good story

A funny trip to Hollywood and gripping escape from Tehran.

The scenes involving Goodman and Arkin are ribald and laugh-out-loud funny. You couldn't ask for two more expert actors to play these jaded movie veterans.

If there's one lesson to be gleaned from director Ben Affleck's relentlessly tense, painstakingly detailed Argo, it's that we should consider the possibility that our history has been manipulated more than many of us would care to admit.

Argo smacks of being another dreary Oscar contender but in actuality it's destined to be one of the fall's most purely enjoyable films.

Ar-go see them in action.

... a crackling good suspense thriller ...

I was literally in tears for parts of Argo, a purely physical reaction, not an emotional one, to deal with the tension... That isn't only some serious movie magic, it's a downright master class in suspense filmmaking from director Ben Affleck.

Under its own terms as an upscale mainstream thriller, it's a total success. This is classy moviemaking, from its well-observed performances to immaculate eye for period detail.

a crackerjack based-on-a-true story thriller that finally allows actor/director Ben Affleck to demonstrate his behind-the-camera muscles in a location other than his native Boston

Hundreds of Isaac victims show up for legislative Insurance - Nola.com

"Without elevation (rebuilding is) like buying a new pair of shoes and then you go stand in the river. It doesn't make sense to me." -- resident

More than 200 St. John the Baptist Parish residents affected by Hurricane Isaac attended a state legislative Insurance Committee meeting in LaPlace on Wednesday to get answers about insurance concerns. Isaac, which came ashore Aug. 29, caused widespread flooding in St. John and required the emergency evacuation of about? 4,000 residents who were stranded in homes surrounded by rapidly rising water. Parish officials estimate more than 7,000 houses were damaged during the storm.

Members of the Senate and House Insurance Committee held a joint meeting at the St. John the Baptist Parish Community Center to discuss insurance issues related to Isaac and to hear residents' problems and questions.

"Our goal is to try and answer questions and let citizens know that we are there to assist them in their recovery efforts," said Sen. Gary Smith-D Norco, vice chairman of the Senate Insurance Committee.

It was a meeting punctuated by applause from those in the audience as fellow residents shared with the panel of legislators their trials in the post-Isaac landscape. Residents' groans expressed their disagreement or disgust with answers from federal government agencies, such as FEMA representatives.

"I feel very, very frustrated right now," said one woman, who said she has lived in the Cambridge subdivision for more than 30 years and is wondering why there are no grants for home elevations. "Without elevation (rebuilding is) like buying a new pair of shoes and then you go stand in the river. It doesn't make sense to me."

Sen. Troy Brown-D, Assumption said the federal government determines flood zones, which is a primary step in deciding whether an area should be considered for an elevation program. However, Brown said he and other elected officials were pushing to fast-track the construction of a hurricane protection levee for St. John so that elevation wouldn't be needed.

Many residents said they don't understand how insurance companies determined "substantial damage" and the seemingly capricious nature of adjusters in issuing advance checks for property damage to some people while in other cases, withholding money until homeowners provide contract estimates.

Debra Schum said she questioned the logical nature of the National Flood Insurance Program and the FEMA Disaster Assistance Program, two programs meant to help residents in recovery efforts.

Schum said she received an advance from the flood program to start repairs on her house, but the check was made out to her and her mortgage company. The mortgage company wouldn't release the money without having an adjuster's estimate, which wouldn't come for another 30 days, she said.

"Why couldn't the check be made out directly to me?" Schum asked. When FEMA gives disaster assistance the money goes directly to the individual, she said.

Smith, who represents the area and helped schedule the joint session, said the meeting grew out of the many calls and conversations he and other elected officials have had with residents about the insurance process.

Residents were asked to submit their questions and include contact information on cards that were collected by legislative staff members. Smith and other panel members promised the audience that their concerns would be addressed. "If we can't get the issues answered tonight, we will follow up," Smith said.

Liquid metal battery: Can we invent our way out of climate trouble?

MIT inventor of a liquid metal battery makes guest appearance on The Colbert Show and adds a note of optimism in climate debate. Can liquid metal battery or other battery technology diminish world's reliance on oil?

By Laurent Belsie,?Staff writer / October 24, 2012

A liquid metal battery prototype is under construction at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in this 2009 file photo. Since then, MIT Professor Donald Sadoway has formed a company to commercialize the technology and, he hopes, reduce emissions that speed climate change and dependence on oil.

After President Obama and Mitt Romney spent three presidential debates steering clear of climate change, there was plenty of hand-wringing among the pundits. The candidates were letting down the electorate. The nation needs serious discussion about the looming challenge.

But what would happen if the solution to climate change turned out to be, well, sort of fun?

What if an inventor went on, say, The Colbert Report, and told the audience he had a neat solution for America's dependence on fossil fuels?

That happened Monday night when Stephen Colbert invited MIT professor?Donald Sadoway onto his show to talk about his new battery that can store wind and solar energy for a fraction of the cost of today's batteries.

If his liquid metal battery can be commercialized successfully, it could be a game-changer by making renewable energy far more ? (oh, wait, this is getting far too serious). Let Don and Stephen explain:

Colbert: You say, like, new batteries can lead to world peace. How does the new battery lead to world peace?

Sadoway: If you have batteries everywhere so that ?you can bring renewable sources of energy into the grid and use renewable sources of energy to power electric vehicles, then you're going to topple dictators. You're going to make things very, ?very different when the price of oil goes back to 20 dollars a barrel.

That drew cheers from the crowd. (You can see the video here.)

Imagine! Cheers about tackling global warming, instead of guilt every time you turn the key in the ignition.

Mr. Colbert didn't let Professor Sadoway get into details. But in a TEDTalk this past March, Sadoway laid out the science behind his invention and explained why it's important:

"If we're going to get this country out of its current energy situation, we can't just conserve our way out, we can't just drill our way out, we can't bomb our way out. We're going to do it the old-fashioned American way. We're going to invent our way out, working together."

That also drew cheers from his audience. (You can see the talk here.)

Since building prototypes at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sadoway has formed a company, gotten investors, and is preparing to scale up his invention to see if it can work outside a laboratory setting.

Is the liquid metal battery a breakthrough? Who knows? Does this solve global warming? Of course not.

Those difficult conversations that climate scientists are calling for ? government-to-citizen and government-to-government ? still need to happen if we are to move toward a coordinated solution for climate change.

But those conversations will be so much easier if they're not focused solely on what we have to give up and the extra we have to pay.

Inventors and other creative people have the opportunity to show us the flip side of that equation: What we can gain by moving to a world no longer dependent on fossil fuels.

Tuesday FSU links: 'Burden gone' for Duke coach David Cutcliffe

Florida State Duke David Cutcliffe

Duke coach David Cutcliffe (blue hat) received a Gatorade shower after the Blue Devils beat rival North Carolina on a last-minute touchdown Saturday night. The win gave Duke its first bowl berth since 1994. (Chuck Liddy/News & Observer (Raleigh, N.C.) / October 23, 2012)

TALLAHASSEE -- Another Tuesday morning is upon us. We are now one more day closer to Florida State's final game before next week's "Bye."

Speaking of the off week, we will have a story later this week on the impact of having such a late bye week. FSU coach Jimbo Fisher was pretty adamant late Saturday night about wishing it could have come earlier in the season. Following the Seminoles' physical, draining 33-20 win over Duke, he could sense where the long road thus far had beaten down his team.

But, like it or not, he and players do realize that they still have another week to go before their bodies can be rested, and their minds relaxed and away from the daily football grind for a few days.

That's because this week, they have a true test ahead of them.

This week, it's all about the Duke Blue Devils.

Much like FSU shocked the ACC in men's basketball last season, the Blue Devils have been the surprise conference darlings in football this year. Of course, FSU's hoops team was expected to compete near the top of the conference pack last season even before claiming its first ACC title. The Blue Devils, though, in football at least, haven't had a six-win season since 1994.

That all changed Saturday night when they beat rival North Carolina, 33-30, on a last-minute touchdown.

For the first time in 18 years, the Blue Devils were bowl eligible. At at 3-1 in the ACC's abysmally poor Coastal Division, they are very much in control of their conference destiny. There still is a very real chance that they could represent the division at the ACC Championship game in Charlotte, N.C. the first weekend of December.

There's ?very real chance FSU could represent the Atlantic Division there, too. For that reason, some are terming the regular-season game the two are playing Saturday afternoon in Tallahassee a precursor to what could come later this year.

As for being bowl eligible and remaining this late in the season in the conference championship discussion, Duke coach David Cutcliffe over the weekend said that after five years of trying to make all of that happen, there is a "burden gone."

Check out the story that references that quote and a few other links down below:

---Cutcliffe's comment about the burden being gone was part of this blog from the News & Observer's (Raleigh, N.C.) Laura Keeley, who also has a couple of links in it to columns and features about the construction of this six-win team. This moment of relief was initiated on a winter day in 2007, she wrote. Back when Cutcliffe, a former SEC sideline general was hired by the Blue Devils, it had been his intention to turn around the school's fledgling program as soon as he could.

Once you read all of that, you'll know why Cutcliffe is quick to say "there is a burden gone."

---Thanks to last weekend's win, the Blue Devils earned their share of praise and attention from the ACC and abroad. Multiple Blue Devils earned player of the week honors and the team itself was recognized as the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Team of the Week, as recognized by the Football Writers Association of America. You can read about those accomplishments in this by The Herald-Sun's (Durham, N.C.) Steve Wiseman.

---One more link for you on the Blue Devils (and this actually comes from a website). Our friends at the ACC Sports Journal have this column from Barry Jacobs, who writes that at long last, Duke is relevant on the gridiron. For the first time in many Octobers, the chatter on the Durham end of Tobacco Road isn't about Mike Krzyzewski's basketball team. There is a buzz about what the football Blue Devils are doing. For the people living in North Carolina, it's a welcomed buzz.

---Finally, turning our attention back to FSU, here are a couple of stories from the Orlando Sentinel that you may have missed Monday night.

The first is about running back Chris Thompson, who received the unsettling news Sunday afternoon that he had torn the ACL in his left knee. The senior's season -- and possibly college career -- is over. While the NFL remains a possibility, the fact of the matter is, the Seminoles are about to be without one of their veteran leaders who many turn to as a voice of inspiration, guidance and understanding. The thing is, he'll continue to be all of those things. Much like he did after breaking vertebrae in his back last season, Thompson was around his teammates much of Monday. In meeting rooms and at practice. He was there with his new crutches.

---Next is this story on the ACC's reprimand of officials. After the crew handling Saturday's FSU-Miami game messed up a 10-second run-off that occurred near the end of the first half, the conference slapped each official with letters of reprimand. The crew chief, David Epperley, was suspended.

While Seminoles fans are rejoicing because of that, most also are bitter that no action was taken on what they feel were other instances of questionable officiating. There were three of four pass interference penalties that they were upset about, as well as a few other poor calls. In all, FSU was penalized 12 times.

The crew at the North Carolina-Duke game also was disciplined for not seeing a blatant personal foul as a Tar Heels defender intentionally blindsided a Blue Devils receiver as the players were jogging into position for a play.?

---Lastly, there is this blog (returning back to Chris Thompson) from Sentinel columnist Mike Bianchi, who argues Thompson and other college athletes deserve better. The running back put his career, his livelihood, his body, on the line for the game and for FSU. Bianchi argues cases like Thompson's proves even more that college athletes need compensation for their play.

E M B O D I M E N T - Self Awareness

I first started keeping a diary when I was in High School. I remember I was reading around that time the importance of self-knowledge as one of the first steps on the path to knowing God. I did not know myself when I was in High School. I realized that one way to get to know myself was to look inside myself and get to know my inner self.

Keeping a diary is a way to become self aware. I found what is below interesting on self awareness. As we over the years write daily in our diaries or journals we can come to know ourselves. We can come to know what needs to be change or improved. We can hopefully also escape making bad life decisions.

"Definition of Self Awareness -
What is Self Awareness

Simply put, the definition of self awareness is the capacity to notice the self. What is awareness itself, and what does it actually mean to be self-aware? What is the role of self-awareness in personal growth, self improvement and motivation? Read on and find out...

What is Awareness?

To get a clear understanding of the definition of self awareness, it's a good idea to first understand awareness itself. So what is awareness?...

Simply put, awareness is our capacity to notice things. We may be aware of the time or aware of a particular situation - we may notice that we are late or that someone is watching us. Being aware of such things means we have taken note of them.

This is awareness.

What is Self Awareness?

Self awareness basically describes a situation where the light of awareness is turned onto ourselves. While awareness is our ability to take note; self-awareness is our ability to take note of ourselves.

When we turn our awareness to shine on ourselves, we may become conscious of a great deal of internal activity. We may notice specific thoughts or thought patterns. We may notice particular emotions or flows of energy. We may awaken to physiological processes happening in our body such as heartbeat, heat, sweating. We may notice intuitions or gut feelings.

The world of the self is rich and fascinating and we are privileged to possess the ability to actually enjoy all of this consciously. Our capacity for awareness is what makes this possible.

The Definition of Self Awareness

Holds the Key to Positive Change

Self-awareness is the ultimate enabler. Without living knowledge of ourselves (which is another way of defining self awareness) there would be no hope for conscious, positive change. Thanks to awareness we can take a good look at ourselves and our lives and see what is working for us and what isn't. This awareness plants the seeds of change in our subconscious mind. It plants in us the drive and motivation to choose to do things differently.

The motivation for breaking bad habits, for example, comes from an awareness of the detrimental effects the bad habit is having in our lives. The self-motivation to change also comes from a vivid awareness of what we want for ourselves and our future, and a lucid recognition that we simply won't be able to have it if we don't leave our bad habits behind.

With self-awareness we can monitor the negativity inside us and prevent it from getting the best of us. In breaking bad habits, self-awareness can help ensure that we are being hard on our habits instead of being hard on ourselves. It can also help us work with the body mind connection to reduce damaging stress and revitalize. The more self-aware we become, the more power we have to create positive change in our lives.

What is Self Awareness but a Living Knowledge of the Self?

An expanded definition of self awareness is our ability to notice ourselves in the present moment. Self-awareness is often a good measure of 'presence'.

Being present with our body can bring us awareness of many things. A gut feeling may alert us to something that's not quite right; the flow of blood in our veins can awaken us to the simple joy of being alive; a shiver down our spine may let us know that we have connected with a truth. Noticing this internal activity as it happens is the manifestation of self-awareness.

This living knowledge of what is happening with us now is self-awareness, to be differentiated from self-knowledge which is based on what we know of ourselves from the past - even if that past is as recent as only a moment ago.

Awareness helps us keep-up with life as it happens. It helps connect us with the present moment and the constant changes that the present moment brings."

It is important that a patient should consult a legitimate and proven cosmetic surgeon to ensure the safety and success of the operation. Linda the Bra Lady: On Bra Sizes, Bra Fitting ... - The Lingerie Addict

A couple of weeks ago, Linda Becker (a.k.a. ?Linda the Bra Lady) had an interview on Good Morning America where she said, among other things, said bra brands were guilty of using ?vanity sizing? to make their customers feel like they had smaller backs and larger chests. Unsurprisingly, this point of view caused a lot of ripples in the lingerie community, most of them negative.

I reached out to Linda almost immediately after the piece aired and asked if she?d be willing to do a follow-up interview on The Lingerie Addict. Not only did she strike a nerve worth exploring, I also know how hard it can be to explain any point in a 2 minute soundbite or 140 character tweet.

Though I briefly considered not publishing our interview ( after all, this is ?old news? by internet standards now), I decided to keep it because I believe it pulls together several different conversations that have been happening a lot in lingerie blogosphere lately, especially among full-bust bloggers. Namely, it brings up the stigma attached to large breasts, bra sizing information/misinformation, the war on plus four, inconsistent sizing between brands, vanity sizing, and who gets to call themselves a bra expert. The vanity sizing issue in particular stuck out to me because it illuminated how much emotion is attached to those numbers inside the tag. I was also very interested on what some of my readers (especially readers who?ve been wearing bras for longer than I have) had to say regarding their personal experiences with any changes in bra sizing.

As for me, my position on bras and bra sizing hasn?t changed. I don?t believe every woman has to wear a bra; no matter your size, it?s an individual choice. I don?t subscribe to any one, true method of bra fitting because every woman?s body is different and there is no formula that will work for 100% of women, 100% of the time. And I don?t unreservedly recommend visiting a bra boutique to get fitted. Aside from the fact that it?s not a realistic option for every woman, I also know from personal experience that professional bra fitters don?t get it right all of the time.

Instead, my perspective is the same as it?s ever been. Learn the 3 ways to tell if your bra is fitting correctly. Calculators, bra fitters, trial-and-error?whatever you choose, the most important thing is to get familiar with how a properly fitting bra feels on your body. Because once you know that, it doesn?t matter what the number on the tag reads, what bra calculator you use, what boutique you visit, or what an expert says?you will always know what fits.

Just in case you?re new to this story, here?s a timeline of everything that?s happened so far:

And now on to my interview with Linda. As always, I?d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

1) Hi Linda! Thanks so much for agreeing to do a follow-up interview here on The Lingerie Addict. I appreciate you sparing some time for me and my readers. I know you?re a busy lady, so let?s jump right into it. After your interview on Good Morning America last week, several bloggers took offense to your use of the phrase ?vanity sizing.? I know how hard it is to convey a point in a 2 minute news clip (or a 140 character soundbite), so why don?t you tell us more about what you meant by that ? both for people who are familiar with the news piece and who haven?t seen it.

About 10 years ago, as I was fitting women day in and day out, I started noticing that a few bras were fitting looser in the back than before. As time went on, I continued to see the trend. A woman who would fit perfectly into a 36 band bra suddenly needed a 32 to get the same fit. In fact, this happened to me! When I moved to New York about eight years ago, I fit into a 36D perfectly. But since bra sizes have changed, I now fit into a 32G in the same brand? and (I?m not afraid to say it) I weigh about ten pounds more now! I?m using the same ?good fit criteria? and brands as before. Bra sizes just changed. I think companies did it so that women could feel like they suddenly have a smaller back. It?s the same with clothing!

Vanity sizing or not, bra sizes changed. But let?s be real. I think it?s naive to think that vanity sizing only exists in clothing and not in bras. I?m also not the first to mention this, as this NY Times article pointed out: ?Women Are Shocked by Their New Bra Size.?

2) I know for a fact that several people were bothered by the headline, ?Bra Sizes are a Scam!? I didn?t watch the live newsclip, but did you ever actually say scam? If so, why that particular word? And, if not, how do you feel about that word being used to describe your view on vanity sizing?

Scam was not my word. Sorry to disappoint! I think the media chose that word to amp up the ?gasp? factor. It?s a bit negative, but I don?t really mind it. It makes women take notice. And what I really want to do is help these women out. Those that have been wearing bras for more than 10 years now deserve to know that sizes have changed, that it?s not just their imagination. I don?t think that announcing that bras sizes have changed is terrible, a ?scam?, or ?calling out? vendors. Industry standards change. It happens. I just think women deserve to know about it. What?s most important to me is helping women find the best fitting bra ? that?s what I?ve been doing since I started more than 25 years ago!

3) Now I haven?t worn a bra for the last 10 years, so I can?t personally speak to if my size has changed lately, but how did you arrive at the conclusion that bras are vanity sized now? Did you compare any bras from the past to bras today? Did you reach out to any lingerie companies? Or is this based on your experience as a bra fitter? And if it based on your personal experience, how would you respond to claims that that?s not a valid way of measuring changes in size?

Thank you for admitting that you haven?t been wearing a bra for more than 10 years. I think a lot of the people trying to stir the pot do not have the same years of experience that I have. I have been fitting bras for over 25 years. I?m not just the namesake of my company. I actually fit women all day long. I have fit literally thousands and thousands of women in bras. Again, my ?good fit? criteria is pretty strict, and has not changed over the years ? including the importance of a snug bra band. After fitting women every single day for 25 years in the same brands? it was impossible not to notice the difference in sizing.

My response to the claims from other fitters saying that experience is not a valid way of measuring changing sizes: really?! I would love to sit down and measure every bra from every company dated from every year for the past ten years? but there?s no need. I?ve been fitting the same bras, the same way, on thousands of women. They?ve changed.

I have been working closely with lingerie and bra manufacturers for years, and they didn?t actually come out and say that their sizes changed to boost sales and egos. It?s my educated guess that bra companies saw the tiny women with full busts on TV and adjusted their bra sizes to help reflect this. Don?t tell me women aren?t vain about their band size. I have women jump for joy when they find out that a 30 or 32 bra fits them better than a 36 or 38. Who doesn?t want to have a slimmer, smaller back?! We?re only human, after all.

4) Have you heard from any bra brands in reply to your interview on Good Morning America? If so, can you share what they had to say?

No. They know I?m right. Bra companies call me up frequently to discuss the way their new styles are fitting, get feedback etc. They know what?s going on. In the end, it?s my job as a bra fitter to adjust to what?s going on in the industry. Also, I never called out anyone in particular. This was an industry change.

5) There have been a lot of new lingerie companies on the scene lately. Do you think the vanity sizing issue applies to all brands and all sizes or is concentrated in certain areas like full bust sizing or European bras or high-end brands or something different? Are there any companies in particular that you believe are now using vanity sizes?

Please remember that I can only comment on brands that I?ve been carrying at my stores. Here?s a list. The brands that have been around for many years are the brands I?m talking about. Although a very few have not changed, the vast majority have. New brands just followed the new standard in the industry, which is a bigger band.

Every brand fits differently, and so does every style within a brand. And no, I won?t start naming ?vanity? brands. HA! I don?t intend to place blame on any bra companies here. I just want to enlighten women to the adjustments that the bra world has made to bra sizes.

6) On a related note, one of the things that comes up a lot around bra sizing is the lack of standardization across brands. And several people have used the GMA piece as an opportunity to reiterate their issues with the plus four size method. Do you think vanity sizing is at all related to either of those things?

Oh, believe me, I wish there was a standardization of bra sizes across the globe, but that?s unlikely to happen. Even if there was a strict set standard that every company followed, different fabrics would fit differently, and each woman?s unique shape would still require a slightly different bra. Until there?s a standard in the shape and size of a woman, I don?t think we can every truly have standard sizing. This is why only a trained fitter is really qualified to fit someone for a bra. But, since not everyone can make it in to a shop, these DIY measuring methods are meant to help them find a place to start and enlighten them to the possibility that they could be a whole new size.

That being said, I?ve supported the War On Plus Four in theory (you and I have tweeted much about this), and I?m glad that women are updating their measuring methods, but there?s also not one standard for measuring either.

For example, my bra fitters go through months of Bra School before they are certified to fit. I used to teach a ?plus 5? method (adding about 5 inches to the underbust measurement) more than ten years ago as a general starting point. When my NYC shop opened about 8 years ago, I started teaching a ?plus 3-5? method. I did this to accommodate some of the changes that bra companies were making to their bra bands. Now, eight years later, I?ve migrated to a ?plus 0 to 3? for certain women. And, my goodness, sometimes my fitters and I even have to subtract inches for women with certain shapes! Some people think that adding four inches to an underbust measurement is never OK for a good bra fit. For most of my customers, this is true. But that?s because I help a lot of very full busted women. Let?s be clear: every bra band needs to be snug to fit properly. But the bigger the bust, the snugger the band needs to be. It?s working harder! A bra size is dependent on the way the bra runs, the material, the brand, and the woman?s size, age and comfort. And there ARE women who need to add more than zero inches to get a good fit.

Good fitters know, and I know, that measuring the underbust and adding inches (or not) is just basic a guideline for a bra size starting point, and that there is no one-method-fits-all way to do it. As fitters, we take into account a million more factors than just this one measurement.

7) Another conversation that?s coming up a lot now is how bra sizes are getting bigger. Several newspapers in the UK just published a piece saying the average British woman?s bra size has gone up from a 34B to a 34DD. Do you think that?s because of vanity sizing or are women?s breasts actually getting larger? Or are the two things even related at all?

I think both things could be happening. For one (and remember, I live in the USA where the average dress size has also gone up), breasts are getting bigger, and girls are getting breasts at a younger age. I?m not a doctor, so I won?t even try to tell you why (though I have several opinions on the matter), but it is happening. Also, I think larger cup sizes are more popular because back sizes fit larger. For a woman who could fit perfectly into a 36D ten years ago, she would now need a 32DDD/F just to get the same cup size in the new back size. I think the vanity sizing was really based more on the notion of a slimmer back and the fuller cup size is a result of that.

I don?t think bra companies thought about what this would do to women who already had small bands and full busts. Suddenly, someone who was a 34DD 10 years ago would now need about a 30G or H. I?m very happy that these D+ sizes exist ? women really needed them before, and they especially need them now. But most women are not used to such high letters. In fact, it?s been a real mission of mine to help women understand that a G cup or up is totally common, now! It?s taken years of ?braducation?, instruction, and care to help women get over the stigma of D+ bras and just wear what fits and supports them best. These letters and numbers mean something to women and their ego, so they are reluctant to pick out a new size themselves. It takes going to a bra shop like mine and being professionally fit to finally get it. But besides great fit, I want these women to understand that bra sizes are different now, and not to feel strange picking out a brand new size.

8) Now that you?ve had a little time since the interview, how are you feeling about it? Anything you wish you could have said differently? Would you say the same thing again? Have you had a spike in visitors to the store? Tell us the fall-out?good and bad!

No regrets!

Of course I wish there was more time in the interview to explain all of the factors that go in to a good fit, or what criteria would cause a woman to have to add inches or not to her underbust measurement, etc. But, I?m aware that a short spot on TV is not the place to try to squeeze in all of the Bra School training. They hit some good points about changing sizes, proper care, etc. I do wish they had shown the before and after fittings and the braducation I taught those young women. Phew! One woman went from a 40DD to a 30K!

Sure we?ve had a few more visits to our online shop and store, but I?m happier to help spread the word about the benefits of a good bra. It?s always nice to have a new outlet to get the word out.

I was a bit surprised about the backlash and misunderstanding from others in the field. I think some people thought that I was saying modern bra sizes aren?t necessary. Not so! I carry those sizes! I think most just don?t have the right frame of reference since they haven?t even been in business for 10 years, which is when things really started changing. Regardless, my stance on proper bra fitting and my passion for helping women has always been very clear, and they should have known that. Regardless of what these other experts think, it?s more important to me that women realize that bra sizes have changed, rather than why.

I think bra sizes have changed. And I think vanity sizing played a part in why it happened. I said it and I?m not taking it back! Vanity sizing or not, it doesn?t matter to me. It?s more important to me that women wear the bra that fits and supports them best, regardless of the size. And it?s extremely important to me to help women navigate the tricky world of bra fitting.

Thanks again for taking the time to talk with TLA readers, Linda! You?ve given us all a lot to think about.

(AP) ? Heading into the campaign's final weeks, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is upping his criticism of President Barack Obama's plans for a second term, accusing the Democrat of failing to tell Americans what he would do with four more years. The Obama campaign is aggressively disputing the notion, claiming it's Romney who hasn't provided specific details to voters.

At campaign events, in a new ad and fundraising appeal out Saturday, Romney is setting up the closing weeks as a choice between what he says is a "small" campaign that's offering little new policy and his own ambitious plan to fundamentally change America's tax code and entitlement programs.

The new Romney ad criticizes the president's policies on debt, health care, taxes, energy and Medicare, arguing that Obama is simply offering more of the same. The campaign did not say where the spot would air. The fundraising appeal hits Obama for raising taxes and increasing the debt by $5.5 trillion, repeating the lack-of-agenda criticism.

"Although President Obama won't lay out his plan for a second term, we already know what it will be ? a repeat of the last four years. We can't afford four more years of crushing debt and wasteful spending," Romney says in the letter, adding he has a clear plan to put America on a path to prosperity.

Both Obama and Romney retreated from the campaign trail Saturday to bone up on foreign policy, leaving the work of courting voters to their running mates.

Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan on Saturday continued the no-agenda theme against Obama at campaign stops near Pittsburgh and in Belmont, Ohio.

"He's not even telling you what he plans on doing," Ryan told a rain-soaked crowd of about 1,100 people at a campground in coal-rich eastern Ohio.

Obama's campaign disputes the notion that the president hasn't outlined a detailed second-term agenda, pointing to his calls for immigration reform, ending tax breaks for upper income earners, fully implementing his health care overhaul and ending the war in Afghanistan.

In a statement sent after Romney's Friday night event, Obama campaign spokesman Danny Kanner ticked through a series of policy items, calling them "just part of President Obama's agenda for a second term."

Obama, at the Democratic National Convention, called for creating 1 million manufacturing jobs over the next four years with a mix of corporate tax rate cuts and innovation and training programs. He has set a goal of cutting the growth of college tuition in half over the next 10 years. He also has called for Congress to pass proposals he made last year that include includes tax credits for companies that hire new workers and funding for local municipalities to hire more teachers, police officers and firefighters.

As for why Republicans would back the same proposals they have already voted against, Obama has told supporters he expects his re-election would "break the fever" on Capitol Hill that led to gridlock during his first term.

Vice President Joe Biden made a diagnosis of his own on Saturday, saying Ryan had caught "Romnesia," the word Obama used the day before to describe what he calls Romney's changing polices.

"That man is contagious," Biden said of Romney, to loud cheers at a campaign stop in St. Augustine, Fla. "Congressman Ryan caught it as well."

He said the Wisconsin Congressman is now giving a new explanation for cuts in the budget he oversaw and passed in the House.

The president's aides are particularly irked by the questions about Obama's second-term agenda, because they say it's Romney who has failed to provide voters with details. They point to his refusal to provide specifics about his tax plan or outline what he would replace the president's health care overhaul with if he makes good on his promise to repeal the federal law.

An independent group backing Obama, though, is trying to renew attention on Romney's tenure at the helm of the private equity firm Bain Capital. The group, Priorities USA Action, is re-airing an ad about an AMPAD plant in Marion, Ind. That spot features former employee Mike Earnest recalling being told to build a stage from which officials of the office supply company later announced mass layoffs.

He says, "It was like building my own coffin." That ad first aired in battleground states in the summer.

Romney aides have said AMPAD was a struggling business to begin with, and Bain overall created many more jobs than were lost.

That ad will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Nevada, Virginia and Wisconsin. The new campaign will be in addition to a $30 million effort against Romney policy proposals, the group said.

Monday's debate in Boca Raton, Fla., with its focus on international affairs, is the third and final between the two rivals and comes just 15 days before the election.

Obama left Friday for Camp David, the presidential hideaway in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains, where he is huddled with advisers preparing for the debate. Among those with him are White House senior adviser David Plouffe and senior campaign strategist David Axelrod. Aides say Obama was also being assisted by National Security Adviser Tom Donilon and former Obama aide Karen Dunn.

Romney was also with aides preparing for the debate, spending the weekend in Florida.

Both campaigns are heavily targeting Florida and its 29 electoral votes ? the most of any tossup state. It was the second day of a two-day Florida swing for Biden, which overlapped a two-day swing by Ryan. Romney's wife, Ann, was also in Florida Saturday and First Lady Michelle Obama planned a visit Monday, ahead of the presidential debate that night in Boca Raton. The president is planning at least two days of campaigning in Florida after the debate.

Monday's 90-minute debate will be moderated by Bob Schieffer of CBS News. It will be similar to the first debate, with both men standing at lecterns on a stage. Schieffer has listed five subject areas, with more time devoted to the Middle East and terrorism than any other topic.

While the economy has been the dominant theme of the election, foreign policy has attracted renewed media attention in the aftermath of the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Obama had ranked well with the public on his handling of international issues and in fighting terrorism, especially following the death of Osama bin Laden. But the administration's response to the Libya attack and questions over levels of security at the consulate have given Romney and his Republican allies an issue with which to raise doubts about Obama's foreign policy leadership.

Romney has spent large amounts of time off the campaign trail to prepare for the upcoming foreign policy debate. Aides say the additional time preparing is well-spent even if it comes at the expense of public events.

Source: No deal yet on US-Iran nuclear talks

A senior administration official told NBC on Saturday that there have been back-channel talks between the U.S. and Iran about meeting bilaterally on the Iranians? nuclear program ? but that no meeting has been agreed to.

Expanding on a statement issued by the White House after The New York Times reported that there was an agreement, the official says that the backchannel talks have been done in full consultation with the allies ? the P5 + 1 and Israel.

The official pointed out that there have been bilateral talks in the past ? but that Iran refused to even meet with the P5 +1 during the recent United Nations meetings. He said the Iranians know there will be no agreement unless they give up their nuclear program.

Asked about the impact on Monday's foreign policy debate between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney, the official said the administration is not happy that the story came out before the debate, but said the American people might be happy to know the administration is willing to explore all possibilities to get Iran to give up its nuclear program.

The Times, citing a senior administration official, said Iranian officials had insisted that the talks wait until after the presidential election so that they would know which president would be negotiating with them. The Times said: "Reports of the agreement have circulated among a small group of diplomats involved with Iran."

But in a statement Saturday evening, National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said the U.S. and Iran had no such agreement:?

It's not true that the United States and Iran have agreed to one-on-one talks or any meeting after the American elections. We continue to work with the P-5+1 on a diplomatic solution and have said from the outset that we would be prepared to meet bilaterally. The President has made clear that he will prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and we will do what we must to achieve that. It has always been our goal for sanctions to pressure Iran to come in line with its obligations. The onus is on the Iranians to do so, otherwise they will continue to face crippling sanctions and increased pressure.

World powers accuse Iran of covertly using its uranium enrichment program to produce nuclear weapons. The Iranians insists the research and development is for projects to generate electricity and produce medical isotopes.

EU agrees on wider Iran sanctions

A six-country alliance of Western powers, including the United States, has been attempting to negotiate with the Iranians, with?occasional concessions by Iran and assertions that it?s willing to engage with the alliance. Despite the protracted dialogue,?diplomats hope that a negotiated settlement can be reached, with international sanctions providing an incentive.

In October 2009, the U.S and the Iranians agreed in Geneva that Iran would send its enriched uranium to Russia for safekeeping, in exchange for an agreement for enough nuclear fuel for its Tehran medical research reactor. However, the deal fell apart when Iran's negotiators returned home. Iranian officials told NBC News that their supreme leader, the Ayatollah Khomeini, told them they had gone beyond their instructions. That experience has made the White House wary of any agreement that is not blessed by the supreme leader, the sole authority over nuclear decisions in Iran.?

The sanctions began to bite this summer. Hyperinflation in Iran is pushing up prices daily and the dramatic slide in the value of the rial against the U.S. dollar led to unrest in Tehran earlier this month, when angry currency traders clashed with security forces.

The?European Union on Monday ratcheted up its sanctions,?prohibiting transactions between Iranian and European banks and banning imports of Iranian natural gas, among other measures.?

Netanyahu: Draw 'clear red line' to stop Iran

Israel, believed to have the Middle East's only atomic arsenal, sees a nuclear-armed Iran as a threat to its existence and has expressed frustration over the failure of diplomacy and sanctions to rein in Tehran. Western nations fear that a possible strike against Iran's facilities by Israel would lead to wider conflict.
